Though finding a job is easier in the field of health care due to the lack of experts, many people argue that the salaries are not as good as ones of the private sector. Numbers of pharmacies work as enterprises, so the rules of the private sector – such as salaries – appertain to them. Moreover, this profession is a segment of the health care sector in which you do not have to work either in a hospital or in a surgery neither do you have to deal with naked patients. Many people cannot stand seeing blood, but having finished the pharmacy assistant training and having acquired the required health care knowledge, they can earn a good living in a cultured, calm working atmosphere by helping others and promoting the pharmacist’s work.
A pharmacy assistant receives goods, stores them and records the stock; in one word, they do economic activities, too. Their task and their responsibility is to check the sell-by-date as well as to cull these goods properly. They order the needed materials, follow the stock running out, do general administrative work and keep the cash. They can also complete medicinal-technological tasks.
This trade has nearly a 50-year-long history. Over time the profession has had several names, eg. pharmacy laboratory assistant, pharmacy technician. Nowadays it is labelled as pharmacy assistant. However, the profession itself has not changed: a pharmacy assistant’s duty is to help manage the pharmacy on a high vocational and quality standard.
Besides being employed in self-enterprises or in pharmacies in institutional system, a pharmacy assistant can find a job either in a herb-shop, in a wholesale that sells drugs, in different fields of drug production or in some shops that distribute veterinary drugs. So the pharmacy assistant profession cannot be considered to be a boring, monotonous one.
Since more and more pharmacies are opening, new well-trained assistants are needed. More than five thousand people are employed in this field in Hungary, but their average age is over the age of 50. This means that there is an urgent necessity for the young second line, so this training provides the jobseekers that are looking for a long-term working possibility and safe employment useful and valuable knowledge.
